Airfield Asphalt Certification Program

Airfield Asphalt Pavement Inspector Certification (Under Development)

The Airfield Asphalt Paving Inspector Certification course is currently under development. Consequently, paving inspectors requiring certification for upcoming airfield paving projects may be granted a temporary certification until the development of the course is finalized. The temporary certification is contingent upon the inspector possessing a valid asphalt paving certification from another agency.

In order to be granted a temporary certification, applicants must submit the following information.

  • A copy of a current asphalt paving inspector/technician certification from a state highway agency or department of transportation.
  • The state highway/DOT inspector course agenda and/or a detailed outline from the paving certification course attended.

The AACP will review the documentation provided and make a determination as to whether or not the information included in the course is adequate to be granted a temporary certification. The temporary certification decision will be made on a case-by-case basis and supplying all of the required documentation will expedite the approval process. When an agency certifies multiple levels of asphalt paving inspectors, the intermediate to advanced level inspectors are eligible for this temporary certification. In cases where the content of the paving certification course attended is inadequate, the application may be rejected (and $100 of the fee refunded) or the applicant may be required to attend the Army Corps of Engineers TSC Airfield Asphalt Paving Workshop if offered for that project.
